Feasibility Study
A mixed-methods feasibility study was conducted across eight salons and three GP practices in deprived neighbourhoods in Southeast London. Hairdressers were trained to initiate brief, culturally sensitive health conversations and promote NHS Health Checks using co-designed digital materials.
Recruitment exceeded targets (by 115%), reaching ethnically diverse women including Black Caribbean, African, and Latin American communities.
55.8% said they would recommend the NHS health check to others (highest recommendation rate from Black
and Mixed background groups)
There was a 15% increase in Health Checks (including NHS Health Checks, diabetes and hypertension reviews, and CVD prevention discussions).
Hairdressers reported enhanced confidence in initiating health discussions and increased awareness of CVD prevention among clients.
